Augusta Lynx News Release

Rookie forward Mike Erickson scored his first pro goal and added two assists in helping the Augusta Lynx get past the Gwinnett Gladiators by a 6-2 count on Friday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

The Lynx (30-33-6) fought off three first-period power plays against by the ECHL's best man advantage unit while scoring twice to grab a 2-0 lead. Jay Latulippe broke the ice from Erickson and Sam Ftorek at 11:03. Latulippe came out of the penalty box in time to grab the puck on the right wing in the Gladiators' zone and fired it over the shoulder of Adam Berkhoel to make it 1-0 Lynx. Nicolas Corbeil took a feed from Anthony Battaglia and broke through the Gwinnett defense to beat Berkhoel with a backhand deke and a two-goal advantage after 20 minutes of play.

Brian Passmore tipped a Chris Leinweber shot over the left pad of Berkhoel just five seconds into Augusta's first power play chance at 5:01 of the second, and the Lynx scored again at 15:00 when Lee Jacobson's wrist shot found a hole through traffic over the shoulder of Berkhoel to make it a 4-0 game.

Gwinnett (47-14-7) finally found the net at 19:58 when Brian Teixeira scored off the rebound from a John Awe shot to break the shutout bid from Jason Wolfe (20 saves) for a 4-1 score at the break.

Anthony Battaglia and Matt York traded third period goals, with Erickson finishing off the scoring on the night with a power play marker from BJ Gaustad at 18:30.

The Lynx finished the night 2-for-7 on the power play while Gwinnett ended the evening 0-for-7, failing to score a power play goal in 12 chances against over two games against Augusta.

Augusta rounds out the home portion of the 2005-06 regular season with a visit from the Charlotte Checkers tomorrow night at 7:35 pm. With the Lynx sitting one point behind Charlotte for the fifth playoff spot in the division, the game could see Augusta leapfrog the Checkers in the standings with just three games to play. Tickets are on sale now through the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com. Seats are $11, $14, and $15, with discounts available for Comcast Cable subscribers, seniors, students, and military personnel.
