Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Bombers and Chiefs met for the first time in a month tonight in front of 3,000 plus at the EJ Nutter Center. Johnstown jumped out to an early two goal lead before the Bombers were able to get back into it in the first period.

Head Coach Don MacAdam called a time out after the Chiefs scored their two goals in less than three minutes, to allow the team to regain its focus. The time out worked wonders as the Bombers would come out with extra jump in their skates and cut the lead in half.

Able to catch the Chiefs in a line change, defenseman Jeremy Van Hoof (17) sent the puck up to Andy Cote (3) who dropped it back to Paul Kelly, Kelly (12) one-timed it past Chiefs starter Josh Disher to make it 2-1 at the 16:32 mark in the first.

Realizing they had taken momentum back in the game by cutting the lead to one, the Bombers continued to put the pressure on Disher and had a number of great chances to tie it up in the second period. But feeding off of the outstanding play of the young goaltender, the Chiefs came down and pushed the lead back up to two, as Jean Desrochers scored an incredible goal on the short side of Bombers starter David Currie to make it 3-1.

Once again the Bombers didn't panic even after the Chiefs increased their lead to three on the power play. Trailing 4-1 with just under sixteen minutes left in regulation, the sense of urgency came out again and not only did they pepper Disher, they threw the kitchen sink at him. The continuous pressure would pay off again as the Bombers behind the line of Cote, Kelly and A.J. MacLean brought the lead back down to two.

This time it was Cote (2) becoming the benefactor, as he got in close on Disher and found a way to let it rip inside the post, assists to Kelly (8) and MacLean (14) at the 9:18 mark of the second period.

The Bombers totaled 19 of their 44 shots in the third period, trying to tie it up and force the extra session, but as he had been throughout the game, Disher was the difference in this one. Disher stopped 42 of the 44 shots, including three clear cut breakaways on Paul Kelly alone. The Chiefs added an empty net goal as a mere formality to pick up the road victory 5-2.

Paul Kelly set a new season high for most shots taken in a single game by a Bomber ripping off 10 of the Bombers 44 total shots on goal.

The Bombers continue their 15th Anniversary season at home this Saturday April 1, as the Reading Royals come to town at 7:00 PM at the EJ Nutter Center. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or call the Bombers office at 775-4747 for more information. The game can be heard on 980 (am) Homer the Sports Animal or on line at www.daytonbombers.com.
