Condors take Second Straight Game from Grizzlies, 3-2
March 31, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Bakersfield, California-The Utah Grizzlies scored two shorthanded goals but were unable to complete the comeback and fell to the Bakersfield Condors for the second time this week.
Bakersfield jumped to an early lead on Brad Mehalko's 6th goal of the season at the 10:14 mark, assisted by Kevin St. Jacques and Scott Balan. Just over a minute Mathieu Brunelle found Dave Bonk to increase the Condors' lead to 2-0.
Only 47 seconds into the second period, Brunelle and Bonk teamed up with Joel Irving to put Bakersfield up 3-0. Utah finally got on the scoreboard late in the period when Louis Dumont set up Brad Herauf's shorthanded goal at 16:42. The Grizzlies added another shorthanded goal, on the same penalty-kill situation when Matt Craig put one away to cut the lead to 3-2 going into the final frame.
The third period saw chances on both sides, including a disallowed goal by Utah late in the period, but neither team was able to put the puck away. Marty Magers held on for his second win over Utah in as many games, and Alfie Michaud took the loss for the Grizzlies. Utah's leading scorer Ryan Kinasewich was a healthy scratch in the game. Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie announced prior to the game that Kinasewich would not play following a violation of team rules.
The Grizzlies (34-27-6) travel to Fresno for their next match up, Saturday, April 1, versus the Falcons. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
