BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors have won two in a row and three of their last four to slide into a three-way tie for the 7th spot in the National Conference. They took two of three in their series against the Fresno Falcons last weekend, and outscored their Highway 99 Rivals 9-2 over the last two outings.
The Condors are 22-36-9 on the season with 53 points, and are tied for third place in the Pacific Division, seventh place in the National Conference. Knotted up with the Stockton Thunder and the Phoenix RoadRunners in the National Conference playoff race, the Condors continue their homestand this week with three games in four nights - Friday, Saturday and Monday.
WEEK IN REVIEW (Home team in CAPS): Friday, March 21 FRESNO 4 vs. Condors 1 RW Chris Di Ubaldo provided the Condors with a first period tally, but the Falcons shut down the Bakersfield attack the rest of the way, picking up a 4-1 victory. G Jake Moreland made 24 saves between the pipes for the Falcons, and RW Kenny Bernard scored twice, including an empty net goal to seal the win.
Saturday, March 22 Condors 3 vs. FRESNO 0 G Yutaka Fukufuji made 32 saves for his first shutout of the season, as the Condors took a 3-0 win on the road against the Falcons. RW Chris Di Ubaldo scored twice for Bakersfield, and F Eric Sonnenberg padded the lead with a third period goal. The Condors held Fresno scoreless on 11 power play opportunities en route to the victory in the team's last trip to Fresno on the season.
Monday, March 24 CONDORS 6 vs. Fresno 2 Attn: 4,602 Five different players lit the lamp for Bakersfield, who barged out to a 6-0 lead early in the third and cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Falcons Monday night on home ice. C Tim Konsorada scored twice and added an assist, while G Yutaka Fukufuji turned aside 36 Fresno shots for the win. Bakersfield wrapped up their season series with Fresno, going 4-4-2. C Steve Slonina and F Andrew Ianiero both recorded 1g-2a as well, and five players had multi-point games.
