John Murray Named Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of Week

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that goaltender John Murray has been named the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 17-23, 2008. Murray (6'1"/206) (20), who hails from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, went 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals against average and a .985 save percentage in his first week as a pro. Murray registered a 38 stop shutout (2-0) in his first pro game on Friday, March 21, against the Elmira Jackals. He followed that up by making 27 stops on 28 shots in a 3-1 win over the Trenton Devils at the Sovereign Center in Reading on Saturday, March 22.

Murray joined the Royals on March 17 after completing his second season of major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League, compiling a record of 12-15-1 with a 3.78 goals against average and a .901 save percentage for the Kingston Frontenacs. In his first season in the OHL, 2006-07, Murray was chosen as the Kitchener Ranger's Most Valuable Player after finishing second in the league in wins (40); third in goals against average (2.58); and seventh in save percentage (.909). A product of the Junior Flyers program in southeastern Pennsylvania, Murray led the OHL with five shutouts in 2006-07 and was selected to represent Kitchener in the 2007 OHL All-Star Classic in Saginaw, Michigan. Murray becomes the seventh goaltender in Royals' team history to receive the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week Award. That list includes Scott Fankhouser, Adam Hauser, Cody Rudkowsky (twice), Peter Hamerlik, Barry Brust (twice), and Yutaka Fukufuji.

The Royals return to action tonight (March 25; 7:00 pm) at the E.J. Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio, against the Dayton Bombers. The game night broadcast tonight will begin at 6:30 pm with the pre-game warm-up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata, as well as on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
