March 25, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charleston, S.C.-The Checkers had two one goal leads but were unable to stop the offense of the Stingrays as they dropped a 5-2 decision to South Carolina.

The Checkers got the scoring started in the first twenty minutes after defenseman, Kenny Smith wristed a shot that was deflected by Jeff Kyrzakos past Stingrays goalie, Davis Parely at 13:08 giving Charlotte a 1-0 lead. Later, South Carolina tied things up on a one-timer from Todd Griffith that sailed behind Checkers netminder, Chris Holt at 17:58 tying the contest at 1-1 after the first period.

In the second period, Kaleb Betts chased down a loose puck inside the Stingrays zone and blasted a shot over the glove of Parley and just under the crossbar at 4:21. This helped the Checkers retrieve a lead putting them up, 2-1. The Stingrays would counterpunch during a Checkers delayed penalty. With the goaltender on the bench for the extra attacker, Pierre-Luc O'Brien redirected a pass from Tom Judy between the legs of Holt at 7:08 tying the game at 2-2. The Stingrays would capture their first lead of the game when the Checkers defense failed to clear the puck from their zone. Trent Campbell was fed nicely by Travis Morin and slammed home a shot over the blocker of Holt with only 23 seconds left in the period putting South Carolina up, 3-2.

During the final period, the Checkers were unable to work back from a goal down. South Carolina would add goals from Nate Kiser (5:38) and an empty netter by Matt Smith at 19:44 giving the Stingrays a 5-2 victory.
