Comrie Blanks Chicago 2-0

The Manitoba Moose (34-14-4-3) clashed with the Chicago Wolves (27-18-6-2) for the fifth time this season at Bell MTS Place on Saturday afternoon. It was a fast-paced start to the contest with both teams trading chances. Goaltenders Eric Comrie and Kasimir Kaskisuo were sharp in the early going, making 10 and six saves respectively. The Moose couldn't connect on their power play opportunity in the period, while the Wolves came up empty on their two chances as the clubs went to the intermission in a scoreless draw.

The Moose broke the ice 6:25 into the frame when Cam Maclise slipped a shot off the wing under the pad of Kaskisuo. Manitoba picked up the pace from there, and outshot Chicago by a 21-11 count in the period. The hosts found the back of the net again at 8:56 as Francis Beauvillier cleaned up a Jansen Harkins rebound. Comrie turned aside all 11 shots he faced in the period to backstop the Moose into the third with a 2-0 edge.

Comrie remained unbeatable in the final frame. The Moose goaltender turned aside 12 shots and didn't give the Wolves any opportunity to get back into the game. Comrie finished the night with 33 saves for his second shutout of the campaign as the Moose cruised to a 2-0 win for their second straight victory.

With his assist on Manitoba's first goal of the game, Mason Appleton now holds the franchise rookie scoring record with 51 points (18G, 33A).

Eric Comrie's shutout ties him for fifth on the franchise career leaders list with Tyler Moss and Alex Auld.

Attendance was announced at 6,988.

Head Coach Pascal Vincent on Eric Comrie- "Eric is a big piece of our season so far, and the way he managed the game tonight was really good. Especially the first five minutes. Chicago came out pretty hard and they had some chances, but he managed to control the rebounds the way he did. Even the way he moved the puck behind the net and the confidence he gives our team is a big plus, it makes a difference. You're not going to see that stat on any stat sheet but that kind of performance brings the team to a different level."

Forward Mason Appleton on his franchise record - "It's awesome, but I think it goes to show how our team's been all year and why we're in first place in our division. The things that are going to set us up for a playoff run. For me it's great to see the result and good stats and good numbers but the win is what it's about and it's why we're having a successful year."
