Wolf Pack Hold on for 2-1 Win over P-Bruins

Hartford, CT - The Providence Bruins fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday night 2-1 in the opening game of their home-and-home series. The P-Bruins got their lone goal from Peter Cehlarik while Jordan Binnington made his 19th start of the season in net.
The opening 20 minutes saw not one whistle as both sides stayed clean of penalties but could not light the lamp. Binnington made some crucial saves in the first half of the period as Hartford had the better of the early chances, but the Providence offense woke up in the second half of the period. Their best look came from Cehlarik, who beat Chris Nell but rang the right goal post. Hartford outshot the P-Bruins 9-5 in the period but both sides entered the break scoreless.
Midway through the second, Lias Andersson broke through with his fourth goal of the season. Brendan Smith created a turnover in the Providence zone and got the puck to Andersson who backhanded a shot off the post. The puck remained loose in the crease and Andersson poked it through traffic to give the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead at 10:32. Cristoval Nieves doubled that lead at 13:59 thanks to Hartford's first power play of the game. Ryan Sproul fired a slap shot off Binnington's pad that went out to Nieves. He snuck it by for his fourth goal of the season and the Pack brought a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
A perfect tip-in by Cehlarik at 7:38 gave the P-Bruins their first goal of the night. Emil Johansson fired a shot from the left point that Cehlarik got a piece of in front. The deflection broke up Nell's shutout and gave Cehlarik his seventh goal of the season to cut the Hartford lead to 2-1. The Providence offense continued to push and they ended the game on a power play, but they could not convert their pressure into the tying goal as the Wolf Pack walked away with a 2-1 victory.
Binnington stopped 22 of 24 shots while Nell stopped 21 of 22. Providence was 0-4 on the power play and 1-2 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins conclude their weekend of action tomorrow at the Dunk for the second half of their home-and-home with the Wolf Pack at 3:05pm.
