SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch gave up the first goal of the game, but climbed back to down the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 3-1, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Gabriel Dumont got the Crunch on the board and added an assist to lead the team with a two-point night. Alex Volkov potted the game-winner, while Anthony Cirelli contributed an insurance marker to bring Syracuse to 32-18-2-3 on the season. The Crunch won the season-series against the Penguins, 4-1.
Goaltender Connor Ingram turned aside 26-of-27 shots in victory between the pipes for the Crunch. Anthony Peters stopped 33-of-36 for the Penguins. Syracuse converted on 1-of-5 power play opportunities and kept Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scoreless on four man-advantages.
The Penguins opened scoring just 4:42 into the first period. Gage Quinney picked off a pass in the Crunch's zone and sauced a feed for Freddie Tiffels to chip in.
The Crunch evened the score with a shorthanded marker 1:35 into the middle frame. Michael Bournival swept the puck out of the slot and over to Dumont. The center flew down the right wing, cut in front of the net and backhanded the puck into an open corner.
Syracuse took their first lead of the game 6:02 into the final frame. After Daniel Walcott got tied up along the left boards, Volkov grabbed the puck and powered a backhander top shelf. Matthew Peca recorded the secondary assist.
Two minutes later, the Crunch built a two-goal lead on the power play. Mathieu Joseph fired a wrister from the blue line for Cirelli to tip down low. Dumont made it a multi-point game with the helper.
The Crunch travel to face the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Single game tickets and packages are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the Crunch office located inside the War Memorial Arena at 800 S.
