Coffman, LumberKings shut down Swing

Davenport, IA -- Another night, another strong pitching performance by a Clinton LumberKings starter. Tonight, it was lefthander Broc Coffman displaying dominance on the mound as he and the LumberKings shut down the Swing of the Quad Cities, 4-2. The game was the Home Opener for the Swing at John O'Donnell Stadium.

Coffman (1-0) scattered seven hits over six innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out three in his LumberKings debut. Reliever Nate Fogle pitched two scoreless innings, and Kevin Altman worked a perfect ninth for his first save of the year.

The four runs scored by the LumberKings offense was the most in a single game so far this year. Right-fielder Terry Blunt was the catalyst, reaching base twice and scoring both times. Blunt, Johnny Whittleman, and K.C. Herren all doubled in the game.

Jaime Garcia (0-1) took the loss for the Swing, allowing three earned runs over seven innings in his Midwest League debut.

The series between the LumberKings and the Swing continues tomorrow at 6:30 pm. Lefthander Michael Kirkman will make his LumberKings debut, while the Swing counter with right-hander Cory Meacham (0-1).
