Devil Rays crush Wizards for the second straight night

April 11, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays have won consecutive games for the first time this season. Tonight's game finished with a 7-2 score. The Fort Wayne Wizards got on the board first in the top of the second, with an unearned run scored by Kyle Blanks. It was all D-Rays after that.

The Devil Rays rocked Wizards starter, Ben Krosschell, for seven hits and seven earned runs in three and two thirds innings pitched. Four of the runs came in the third inning when Krosschell couldn't get it under control. First, he hit Chris Cunningham with a pitch. Cunningham then stole second with Alex Jamison batting. Jamison then reached base on a walk. With Brandon Rousseve at the plate, Krosschell threw a wild pitch and the runners advanced. Cunningham scored on a ground out by John Matulia. Jamison was driven home by the next batter, Neil Walton, on a single to third base and a throwing error by the third basemen. With Walton on base, J.T. Hall hit a two-run home run to right field.

J.T. Hall was named player of the game with a single in addition to his two-run homer. Shortstop Neil Walton also had a great game with two hits and two jaw-dropping diving plays to rob the Wizards of sure hits.

Devil Rays starter Mike Wlodarczyk pitched four and one third innings allowing only two hits and one unearned run. Aaron Walker picked up the win after tossing three and two thirds innings, also giving up only two hits and one earned run. Chris Kelly came in to finish off the Wizards in the ninth inning yielding one hit. The D-Rays pitching combo tallied ten strikeouts on the night.
