Power Surge Lifts Lansing

Dayton, Ohio - The Lansing Lugnuts finally hit their first home runs of the season as they romped over the Dayton Dragons 10-1 at Fifth Third Field on Monday night. The Lugnuts had scored 25 runs in the first four games without the use of the longball before Monday.

Cory Patton had the first homer of the season for Lansing when he launched a ball onto the berm in right-center field to put the Lugnuts up 1-0. Josh Bell followed suit placing an opposite field shot to the same spot to make the score 3-0 after two innings.

The Lugnuts added two more runs in the third inning when Patton singled home Chris Gutierrez to push the lead to 4-0. It became 5-0 after David Hicks had an RBI fielder's choice. Hicks finished the game with three RBI's.

Lansing's bullpen was dominate for the fifth consecutive day as three pitchers combined to toss six innings of three hit baseball while fanning nine Dragons. The bullpen has now gone 21 2/3 innings while only alllowing one run.

A.J. Wideman started the game for Lansing (4-1), but was chased out of the game after three innings due to a high pitch count. He gave uo one run on five hits in his outing.

Billy Carnline (1-0) garnered his first win for the Lugnuts by throwing three innings in relief of Wideman.

Dragons starter Johnny Cueto (0-1) suffered the loss after being shelled for five runs in four innings.

The Lugnuts and Dayton (1-4) will play game two of the three game set Tuesday evening. Chi-Hung Cheng will start for Lansing. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
