May 31, 2006 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release

The Houston Astros announced Wednesday the signing of Roger Clemens to a 1-year contract with a pro-rated salary of $22 million. Clemens, who has been training consistently, is scheduled to make three minor league starts before joining the Houston Astros rotation on June 22.

Clemens, a seven-time Cy-Young winner, is tentatively scheduled to make appearances in both Single-A Lexington (June 6) and Double-A Corpus Christi (June 11) before making a June 16 start at The Dell Diamond.

Clemens' 19-year-old son, Koby, plays third base for Lexington.

Clemens has not appeared in a minor league game since 2002 when the right-hander worked 12 innings for the Single- and Double-A affiliates of the New York Yankees.

Forty-three years-old, Clemens pitched for the University of Texas and was the 19th overall pick by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 1983 draft. He has more wins (341) than any active pitcher.

Clemens posted a 13-8 record with a 1.87 earned-run average in 32 regular-season games for Houston last year. He is scheduled to return to the Astros rotation on June 22 to start against the Twins.
