Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Heading into its first series against the Express this season, Memphis had managed to string together back-to-back wins just four times over 51 games.

The Redbirds upped that number to five Wednesday, drilling three home runs against Round Rock starter Jared Gothreaux and hanging on for a 4-3 win at The Dell Diamond.

The Express' fifth straight loss is the team's longest losing streak of the year and the roughest patch since last year's team dropped seven straight between August 29 - September 4. It also adds to a franchise record fifth straight, one-run loss.

Gothreaux gave up a John Nelson homer with one down in the first inning, but clung to a 1-1 tie after tossing four scoreless frames. With one on and one out in the sixth, Chris Duncan snapped the tie with his fifth home run of the season. Brian Daubach followed up with a line shot over the left field wall, pushing the lead to 4-1.

Round Rock rallied back with runs in the seventh and eighth, but left two runners on to end the eighth inning.

After Alan Zinter walked and scored on a Joe McEwing single, Brooks Conrad stepped in to face reliever Matt Perisho. With McEwing on second and Mike Rodriguez on third, Conrad drove a skipper down the third base side that Travis Hanson handled for the third out.

Round Rock and Memphis meet again Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond for Game 3 of a four-game series.
