Fresno Grizzlies News Release
(Fresno, Calif., May 31, 2006) --- Join Fresno Grizzlies' mascot, Parker, in giving a great grizzly gift by donating a glove to the Junior Giants. The Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund, in association with the Giants Community Fund, will host a Junior Giants Glove Drive on Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Grizzlies Stadium.
Fans are encouraged to bring an old or new glove to the ballpark and drop it off at any of the glove bins located outside the stadium's entrances or inside at the Courtesy Booth. All fans that donate a glove will receive a ticket voucher good for one Grizzlies' game and an Omar Vizquel pin (while supplies last).
Junior Giants is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. More than 13,000 boys and girls, 5 to 18 years old, participate in this free summer league for at-risk youth in more than 70 leagues throughout Central and Northern California, Oregon and Nevada. The Junior Giants program emphasizes the importance of teamwork, self-esteem and leadership along with teaching the fundamentals of baseball.
"The Junior Giants program gives kids a unique and positive way to learn baseball skills and life lessons, which can be used on and off the field," said Sue Petersen, executive director of the Giants Community Fund.
The Giants Community Fund provides all of the equipment for the Junior Giants leagues with everything from pitching machines to uniforms. The glove drive enables the Fund to provide more than 3,000 additional gloves each year to participants who do not own a glove of their own.
