
Padres purchase contract of Brian Sikorski

PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today purchased the contract of Portland right-handed pitcher Brian Sikorski, designated right-handed pitcher Jim Brower for assignment and transferred left-handed pitcher Roger Deago to Portland from Class AA Mobile.
Sikorski, 31, appeared in 22 games for the Beavers this season, going 2-3 with a 3.14 ERA (10er, 28.2ip), 44 strikeouts and seven saves. Sikorski signed with the Padres as a free agent on Dec. 22, 2005, after spending the previous five seasons pitching in Japan.
Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the fourth round of the 1995 draft, Sikorski has a career 1-3 record with a 5.73 ERA (24er, 37.2ip) in one major league season with the Texas Rangers (2000).
Deago, 28, was 4-3 with a 4.69 ERA (21er, 40.1ip) in 13 appearances (6 starts) with Mobile to start the season.
Originally signed by the Padres as a non-drafted free agent on Oct. 29, 2002, Deago made his major league debut with San Diego during his rookie 2003 season, going 0-1 with a 7.84 ERA (9er, 10.1ip) in two starts with the club.
Deago has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Beavers, combining for a 0-2 record and a 7.86 ERA (16er, 18.1ip) in seven appearances (2 starts).
Brower, 33, made six relief appearances for the Padres this season, going 0-0 with a 9.39 ERA (8er, 7.2ip). He was signed to a minor league contract by the Padres on May 11 and had his contract purchased on May 13. Brower opened the 2006 season with Baltimore, where he went 0-1 with a 13.86 ERA (19er, 12.1ip) in 12 games.
Over parts of eight major league seasons with Cleveland (1999-2000), Cincinnati (2001-02), Montreal (2002), San Francisco (2003-05), Atlanta (2005), Baltimore and San Diego, Brower has a career 33-32 record with five saves and a 4.62 ERA in 351 appearances (28 starts).
The Beavers' active roster remains at its 24-man limit.
