Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Cincinnati, OH - The Johnstown Chiefs could not put a halt to Cincinnati's 13-game winning streak with a hard-luck 5-2 loss on Friday night.

The Chiefs struck first when Vincent Zaore took a home run pass from Ryan Garlock right after his tripping penalty had expired and raced in on a breakaway. Zaore feathered a shot through Cedrick Desjardins' five-hole for his fourth goal of the year at 6:18 of the first period.

Cincinnati answered back at 16:05 of the first when Mathieu Aubin scored his 14th of the season, tapping a shot past Anderw Penner. Aubin was set up on the play by Jason Deitsch and Trevor Wolfe.

The second period saw the tide turn against the Chiefs as the Cyclones tallied three times, twice on the power play. Thomas Beauregard gave the Cyclones their first lead at 11:39 of the second on a 5-on-3 advantage. David Desharnais picked up an assist to tie the ECHL record with a 17-game assist streak. Ryan Maki scored his first of the year right after a penalty to Jason Spence had expired for the Cyclones' third goal, and T.J. McElroy put a point shot by Penner on the power play for the 4-1 lead.

Alexandre Imbeault scored a huge 5-on-3 power play goal with only seven seconds left in the second to cut the lead to 4-2. Imbeault slammed in a rebound off of a shot by Tyler Hirsch, who was set up by Rob Drummond. Drummond's assist extended his assist streak to seven games.

The Chiefs launched an all-out attack in the third period, launching 11 shots at Desjardins, but were unable to beat the Cyclones' netminder. Olivier Latendresse scored the lone goal of the third when he tipped a shot from Aubin by Penner to set the final.

Penner played a strong game in his first start for the Chiefs since January 27, making 35 saves on 40 Cincinnati shots. The Chiefs picked up one power play goal on six chances.
