Salmon Kings Make Roster Moves
February 22, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the organization has released forward Nathan Barrett, re-signed defenseman Chris Shaw and activated veteran forward Robin Gomez.
Barrett, considered a veteran by ECHL standards having played in more than 260 professional games in his career, contributed 13 points (3g-10a) in 13 games for the Salmon Kings after joining the team on January 7th.
ECHL teams are only allowed to have four veteran players activated in their line-up at one time, and when Victoria signed Barrett it gave the team five veterans.
"We had to look at the long and short term objectives that we are trying to accomplish as an organization," Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Dan Belisle said. "Managing five veterans is a difficult task, and with the depth that we have on the wings we believed it was in our and Nathan's best interest to make this move today. With the influx of players coming out of the college and junior ranks we had to make room on our roster."
Shaw joined the Salmon Kings on January 15th and played in 14 games with Victoria before being released on Monday. The Kings' re-signed the 24-year-old native from Surrey and then placed him on the three-day IR today.
Veteran winger Robin Gomez was activated today off the three-day IR. and will play in tonight's game at home versus the Idaho Steelheads.
The Salmon Kings play at 7:05 p.m. tonight at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre as well as tomorrow evening, also at 7:05 p.m. The defending Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads provide the opposition. Get your tickets today by calling 220-7889.
