Spokane Chiefs News Release

The Spokane Chiefs have acquired 18-year-old Luke Betts from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for forward Cody Esposito. Betts is in his second full season in the WHL and has played 79 career games, 17 this season. The Maple Ridge, BC native has scored two goals and four points and recorded 10 penalty minutes.

"With the return of David Rutherford to our lineup we have a log jam at the forward position," Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said. "Red Deer was looking for a player like Cody and it will be a good opportunity for him."

Esposito is also in his second full season in the WHL and has played 18 games this season. Last year as a rookie Esposito scored two goals and eight points in 41 games with 73 penalty minutes.

"We would like to thank Cody for his efforts with our organization," Chiefs Head Coach Bill Peters said. "I wish him success and hope he takes advantage of his new opportunity."

Betts is expected to be in Spokane for the Chiefs home date versus the Chilliwack Bruins on Wednesday night on TicketsWest Player Magnet Wednesday. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a collector's edition player magnet.

Tickets to all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.

CHIEFS REASSIGN REID

The Spokane Chiefs have released goaltender James Reid from their roster and he is awaiting reassignment. Reid will remain on the Chiefs 50- player protected list.

"James will be a Spokane Chief in the future, but right now our goaltending position is as stable as we have ever been and we needed to get James playing some games," Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said.

The 17-year-old did not appear in any of the Chiefs 23 previous games.
