Kamloops Blazers News Release
The Kamloops Blazers ran the table over the course of the last seven days - winning all three games - to push their record back over the 500 mark to 11-10-1-1 which places them 7th in the Western Conference (full standings below). Here's what happened as the Blazers rolled to their first 3-game win streak of the season:
Blazers-2, Rockets-1 (SO) - Ivan Rohac scored the lone goal in the four-round shootout as the Blazers edged the Rockets 2-1 on Wednesday night at ISC. Tyler Shattock opened the scoring by converting a CJ Stretch centering pass late in the first period with Jamie Benn knocking in a rebound midway through the second period to tie the game at one. The third period and overtime solved nothing...with the Blazers outshooting the Rockets 32-22 including 13-6 in the final 25 minutes. Justin Leclerc was solid in picking up the win while Kris Westblom was excellent in preserving a point on the road. The Blazers were 0-for-5 on the PP and 4-for-4 on the PK.
Blazers-4, Winter Hawks-2 - Alex Rodgers set up the tying goal and scored the game winner as the Blazers rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits to double up the Winter Hawks 4-2 last night in Portland. Following a Matt Schmermund goal, Brady Calla supplied a brilliant shorthanded goal midway through the opening period to tie the game at one while Victor Bartley converted a Juuso Puustinen pass in the final minute of the second to tie the game at two - a goal which answered a Jacob Dietrich tally 5 minutes earlier. Rodgers then redirected Ivan Rohac's centering feed past Kurtis Mucha with 1:32 gone in the third to give the Blazers their first lead of the night. Tyler Shattock scored his 4th goal in 5 games - into an empty net - to close the scoring. Portland outshot the Blazers 34-32 with James Priestner picking up the win while Mucha took the loss. The Blazers were 0-for-4 on the PP and 5-for-5 on the PK.
Blazers-4, Bruins-1 - Brady Calla scored twice and setup another as the Blazers won their third straight 4-1 in Chilliwack on Saturday night. Brock Nixon converted Calla's centering pass :31 seconds in to give the Blazers an early 1-0 lead with Juuso Puustinen adding a powerplay goal early in the second period to extend the lead to two. Evan Pighin scored the lone Bruin goal on their second 5-on-3 opportunity of the period to cut the Blazer lead to 2-1 after 40 minutes. Midway through the third, Calla banged in his own rebound on another Kamloops powerplay to put the Blazers back up by a pair. Calla then put the game away with an empty net goal with :45 to play. Final shots were 31-29 Kamloops with Justin Leclerc excellent in the Blazer goal and Mark Friesen solid for the Bruins. The Blazers were 2-for-5 on the PP and 5-for-6 on the PP.
