Everett Silvertips News Release
Chilliwack, B.C.- The Everett Silvertips rode a strong performance by goaltender Shayne Barrie to defeat the Chilliwack Bruins 4-2 in their Western Hockey League game on Sunday night, November 18th, at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack. Barrie had 31 saves to move himself to 3-2 on the season which includes a perfect 3-0 as a starter. The third win in a row for the Silvertips improves their record to 14-10-0-1 (29 points) and they hold on to third place in the U.S Division.
Everett scored first as result of a brilliant Zach Hamill play. Receiving an outlet pass in the neutral zone from Taylor Ellington, Hamill stick handled his way through a pair of Bruins to give himself a partial breakaway from the top of the circles. He then finished off the play by beating Chilliwack goaltender Matt Esposito through the five-hole at the 15:15 mark of the first. Hamill now has a point in 17 of his last 19 games.
Early in the second period that lead was extended when Clayton Bauer scored his second goal for the Silvertips in as many nights. Bauer met up with the puck following a missed Bruins shot at the top of his own right circle and started down ice. He stayed close to the left wing boards the whole way and fired a quick shot from just above the Chilliwack goal line that squeezed its way in behind Esposito at 3:42.
Later in the period Kyle Beach added to his statistics while Everett was on the penalty kill. Mike Alexander - at the Bruins blue line - intercepted a pass and immediately got the puck over to Beach who carried it into the zone. Once at the top of the circles he slightly pulled up and used the lone man back for the Bruins as a screen to score his 18th of the season at 14:37. Beach is currently on a 6 game points streak which includes goals in his last four.
Unfortunately for Barrie his hopes of a first career shutout came to an end late in the third period on a Kevin Boutilier goal at 17:22. Beach then added his second shorthanded goal of the night into an empty net at 19:14. The Bruins still had one more goal in them, however, as Jeff Einhorn scored his first career goal at 19:58 to end Everett's streak of consecutive penalty kills at 23. They hadn't given up a power play goal since November 7th in Lethbridge.
The Silvertips now head to Kamloops to take on the Blazers on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. They return home to Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center this Friday night to face-off against the Regina Pats at 7:35 p.m. Their week rounds out on Saturday night in Seattle as for just the second time this season they take on the Thunderbirds. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Of special note in tonight's game, Cameron Abney made his Western League debut for the Silvertips wearing sweater number 28.
