T-Birds drill Oil Kings

Edmonton, AB, November 18, 2007 - The Seattle Thunderbirds gave up an early first period goal to the Edmonton Oil Kings but rebounded to score four unanswered goals to defeat the expansion franchise 4-1 in front of 5,615 at Rexall Place Sunday night.

The game against the Oil Kings was the sixth game of a six-game road trip to the Central Division. The T- Birds finished the road trip 1-4-1-0.

Seattle goalie Jacob DeSerres stopped 25 of 26 shots he saw to get the win and improve his record to 4-2-0- 1. The T-Birds are now 9-9-3-1 in the US Division.

Robin Figren gave the Oil Kings a 1-0 lead at 1:52 of the first period. Jeff Lee and Brenden Down had the assists.

Seattle tied the game 1-1 at 13:51 of the first on a power-play goal by Greg Scott. Thomas Hickey fed the puck from the left point across the blue line to Prab Rai at the right point. Rai made a move around an Edmonton defender and came down the slot. Rai passed the puck to Scott at the bottom of the right circle. Scott beat Edmonton goalie Dalyn Flette short side over the glove.

Seattle outshot Edmonton 19-7 in the first period.

Bud Holloway put the T-Birds up 2-1 at 5:47 of the second period. Josh Lazowksi worked the puck off the left boards to Holloway at the top of the left circle. Holloway put a snap shot on goal that Flette got a piece of but the puck got past him and trickled across the goal line. It was Holloway's team leading 10th goal of the year.

Edmonton replaced Flette in net with Alex Archibald after Holloway's goal. Flette made 27 saves on 29 shots.

The T-Birds outshot the Oil Kings 20-11 in the second period and had a 39-18 lead in shots going into the second intermission.

David Richard put the T-Birds up 3-1 at 7:50 of the third period with a power-play goal. Jim O'Brien brought the puck up the right boards and passed to Prab Rai at the right point. Rai skated along the blue line to center ice and then passed back to O'Brien at the top of the right circle. O'Brien skated down the slot and then passed to Jeremy Boyer at the right post. Boyer made a backhand cross-crease pass to David Richard at the left post. Richard beat a lunging Archibald for his second goal of the year.

Jan Eberle scored an unassisted goal at 14:57 of the third to put the T-Birds up 4-1. An Oil Kings defenseman lost control of the puck along the left boards and Eberle got to it in the left circle. He beat Archibald through the five-hole to get his third goal of the year.

Seattle outshot Edmonton (9-12-1-3) 12-8 in the third period and 49-26 in the game.

Archibald stopped 19 of 21 shots in just over 25 minutes of action.

The T-Birds are back in Seattle to take on the Regina Pats on Wednesday, November 21, at 7:05 p.m. at KeyArena. They then face the Everett Silvertips on Saturday, November 24, at 7:05 p.m. at KeyArena.
