Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that infielder Robert Bautista has been added to the Chiefs roster. As a corresponding roster move, infielder Jovan Rosa has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to August 16 with a strained quadricep.
Bautista, a non-drafted free agent in 2007, started this season in the Cubs Arizona Rookie League in Mesa playing shortstop and second base. This year he is hitting .223 in 49 games with 18 RBI. Last season in the Dominican Summer League, the 21-year-old switch hitter batted .189 in 65 games with four triples and 28 RBI.
Rosa spent the beginning of the 2009 season in Daytona after spending last season in a Chiefs uniform. After coming back to Peoria from Daytona when Josh Harrison was promoted he has so far hit .295 in 37 games with four home runs, including a grand slam, and 31 RBI. He was injured on August 16 at Quad Cities while running out a grounder and has not played since. At the beginning of the season in the Florida State League, he hit .223 with two homers and 33 RBIs. Last season in 128 games with Peoria, the 2006 22nd round draft selection was one of the toughest outs in the Chiefs lineups. He hit a solid .293, clubbing seven homers and driving in 81 runs. He also had one of the Chiefs most memorable hits of 2008, a walk-off grand slam on June 30.
The first-place Chiefs continue their four-game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits at O'Brien Field Tuesday night at 6:30. LH Jeffry Antigua (2-0, 3.92) will take the mound for the Chiefs opposed by River Bandits' RH Kevin Thomas (5-7, 4.22).
