Bees Continue Hot Streak Winning Two Games in One Night

Burlington, IA (August 25, 2009) - The Burlington Bees picked up two wins Tuesday night winning the completion of a suspended game from July 2-1. The Bees then went on to win the regularly scheduled game 12-6. In the second game, Ryan Wood hit his first two professional homeruns to lead the Bees to victory.

The suspended game began in the top of the sixth inning with the score tied 1-1. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Patrick Norris hit a one-out triple and then scored on a Fernando Garcia base-hit to the give the Bees their 2-1 lead. Justin Garcia pitched all four innings allowing just three hits with two strikeouts and one walk to pick up the win.

In the second game, the Timber Rattlers scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Bees then went on to score ten unanswered runs. They started chipping away in the bottom of the first inning. With one out Adrian Ortiz singled and then moved to second when David Wood walked. After a walk to Shawn Griffin loaded the bases, Jose Bonilla reached on an error, which scored both Ortiz and David Wood. The Bees then tied the game in the second inning when Ryan Wood led the inning off with his first professional homerun.

In the third inning, the Bees scored four runs to take a lead. Nick Francis led the inning off with a double and then Griffin was walked. Bonilla sacrificed each runner up a base. Jason Morales then reached on an error, which scored Francis. The Bees then took a 7-3 lead when Ryan Wood came to the plate and hit his second homerun of the night.

The Bees scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to add to their lead. In the fourth, Francis hit a one-out solo homerun. The homerun was his team-leading 16th of the season. Griffin and Bonilla then walked before Morales came to the plate and singled to score Griffin. In the fifth, Ortiz led the inning off with a singled and then scored on a David Wood double. Wisconsin scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to get back within four runs. The Bees finished out the scoring with two runs in the eighth inning. Griffin began the inning by reaching second on an error and then scored on a Morales double. Ryan Wood then singled to score Morales.

Mike Lehmann got the start for the Bees and also got the win to move to 5-5. He allowed three runs on six hits with one strikeout and three walks in five innings. Riquy Pena pitched two innings allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks. Cole White pitched the final two innings allowing just one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.

The Bees outhit Wisconsin 12-11. Ryan Wood led the way going 3-4 with two runs and five RBI hitting his first two professional homeruns. Ortiz also had three hits. Morales went 2-5 with two runs and three RBI. Griffin walked three times and scored three runs.

The Bees continue the series with Wisconsin on Wednesday night at Community Field. Manauris Baez is the scheduled starter with first pitch scheduled for 6:30.
