Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO - The Chicago Sky have officially re-signed guard Michaela Onyenwere. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.
"Michaela is one of the best young, versatile players in our league," Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca said. "She embodies the type of player we want on our team and we are excited to watch her continue to grow in a Sky uniform."
In 2024, Onyenwere averaged 6.6 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting career-high marks of 41.5% from the field and 36.8% shooting from three. She started the final 16 games of the season, where she averaged 10.1 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 33.3% on 3.0 three-point attempts per game.
She also recorded a strong stretch of games from August 25-September 15, where she scored at least 15 points six times and set three different season highs in scoring during that period. She notched her season-high 20 points on August 30 against Indiana.
Additionally, the Colorado native tallied 1,000 career points on September 15 against Phoenix. During that game, she scored 18 points and recorded season highs of nine rebounds and four-three pointers.
Chicago originally acquired Onyenwere in a trade with Phoenix in 2024 after she spent one year with the Mercury and two seasons with New York.
"I've had the chance to get to know Michaela better this offseason, and I'm inspired by her work ethic, passion, basketball IQ and physicality," Head Coach Tyler Marsh said. "She has grown year after year in this league and I'm really looking forward to coaching her this season."
"I am so excited to be back in the Chi this year!" Onyenwere said. "Under Tyler's leadership and guidance, I am elated for what this team will grow into. I'm ready to get to work!"
Chicago will tip off the 2025 regular season on Saturday, May 17 against the Indiana Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at 12 p.m. CT. Follow @chicagosky on all social media platforms and head to sky.wnba.com for the latest news, content and ticket purchasing.
