Checkers sign two new players for tonight's game

(Charlotte, NC - Friday, February 21) The Checkers today have signed two new players, center Jerry Keefe and forward Chris Seifert. The announcement is made today by Checkers General Manager and interim coach, Derek Wilkinson. Both will be in the Charlotte lineup tonight when the Checkers host the Greensboro Generals at Cricket Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Keefe comes to Charlotte from the Orlando Seals of WHA2 where he has played in 18 games, scoring four goals and 11 assists for 15 points and 18 penalty minutes. Keefe played for Atlantic City of the ECHL two seasons ago, and played with Wilkinson for the Belfast Giants of the BISL during the 2001-02 season. The Providence College graduate also has seven games to his credit with the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks during the 1999-2000 season.

Seifert arrives in Charlotte from the Winston Salem T-birds of the SEHL, where he is the team's leading scorer. In 43 games this season for the T-birds, Seifert has 21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points and 37 penalty minutes. Seifert graduated last May from Manhattanville College just outside of New York City.

Tonight is "Tribute to the King T-Shirt Night" at Cricket Arena. The first 2,200 fans through the door receive a free t-shirt courtesy of Dr. Larry Seitlin. The Checkers will also be having a tribute to Elvis Presley, the King of Rock-n-Roll. Fans are are being asked to dress like Elvis and will get a chance to go on the ice!
