Augusta Lynx News Release

Columbia opened up a two-goal lead on Saturday night, only to have the Augusta Lynx come back with five unanswered goals in a 5-2 win over the Inferno in front of 3,847 at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

Alexandre Burrows started the scoring on the power play at 6:13 of the first period from Jesse Schultz, followed by Schultz's power play goal at 7:58 from Terry Harrison and Chris St. Croix to put the Inferno up 2-0. Louis Goulet would get the Lynx on the scoreboard at 13:43 of the period from Jonathan Gagnon and Martin Lapointe to make it 2-1 at the end of the opening frame.

From there, the Lynx would take over on the scoreboard. Three goals in the second period turned a deficit into a two-goal lead for Augusta, starting at 5:59 when Gagnon scored from Goulet and Nick Greenough to tie the game. Then Brad Fraser scored his first goal in a Lynx uniform from Terry Marchant and Scott Kelman at 10:24 to give Augusta the lead, snaking a wrist shot between the pads of Inferno goaltender Josh Blackburn. Marchant would close out the second stanza scoring when he took a Kelman feed and broke in on the right wing, roofing a shot over the shoulder of Blackburn on the power play to make it 4-2 Lynx. Todd Bennett assisted on the goal at 11:54 as well.

Third period action saw Kelman score quickly, just 1:26 in as he also went top shelf on Blackburn from Bennett and Marchant to give Augusta a 5-2 lead. From there, the Lynx would clamp down defensively as the game became more physical, and the two teams combined for 106 minutes in penalties and no further scoring. Gregg Naumenko stopped 19 shots for the win while Blackburn turned aside 28 shots in the loss.

The Lynx get back to action Thursday night at home against the Pensacola Ice Pilots in a 7:05 pm game before heading out on the road against Greensboro Friday night. Tickets for all remaining home games are available through all TicketMaster locations, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (706) 828-7700.
