Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl fell to the Pensacola Ice Pilots 5-3 at the BI-LO Center Saturday night. The Grrrowl fought back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game up 3-3, but Greenville was never able to get ahead of the Ice Pilots as they suffered their 36th loss of the season.
The Ice Pilots took an early when Peter Fregoe beat Michel Robinson at 5:04 of the first period. Fregoe shot a puck that was deflected from the side boards to center ice for the unassisted goal to give Pensacola the 1-0 lead. Mike Henderson evened the score for the Grrrowl with a power-play goal at 10:23 of the first period. Henderson took a slap shot from the point off a Jonathan Zion and Jeremy Kyte pass for Greenville's first goal of the night. The Ice Pilots jumped back out to a one-goal when Jade Galbraith put the puck passed Robinson with just 3:39 remaining in the first period. The Grrrowl outshot the Ice Pilots 14-8 in the first period but trailed 2-1 at the end of one period of play.
The Ice Pilots went up by two goals on Galbraith second goal of the game and 13th of the season at 14:45 of the second period. It looked as if Pensacola's Brian Eklund was going to hold Greenville off the board in the second period, but the Grrrowl finished the period strong with two goals in the last two minutes of play to tie the game 3-3. Jonathan Zion brought the game back within a goal at 18:17 with Greenville's second power-play goal of the night. Randy Dagenias tied the game at 19:00 of the second period with his third goal of the season. The Ice Pilots outshot the Grrrowl 13-11 in the second period.
Pensacola reclaimed the lead when Brett Collins jammed the puck behind Robinson for his third goal of the season at 11:50 of the third period. The Grrrowl pulled Robinson in favor of an extra attacker, but Greenville couldn't get anything passed Eklund. The Ice Pilots added an empty-net goal at 19:17 for the 5-3 win. The Grrrowl outshot the Pensacola 12-11 in final period. Robinson made 26 saves in the loss.
The Grrrowl will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they will take on the Columbus Cottonmouth at 3:05.
