Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers didn't disappoint the 11,879 fans in attendance at home as they defeated the Dayton Bombers by scoring three goals in the final period winning, 3-1.

The Bombers would strike first in the contest and it was a power play goal scored by Josh Sciba at 8:29 as he blasted a shot over the glove of Holt after a nice pass from Mike Berry. It would be the only goal of the opening period.

There was no scoring in the middle frame, but the Checkers would score three unanswered goals to solidify the victory in the final stanza. The first was done in dramatic fashion as Chris Capraro was awarded a penalty shot and beat Jeremy Duchesne between the legs on a nifty deke at 5:23 tying the contest at 1-1. Later, it was Checkers defenseman, Kirk Dewaele firing a wrist shot that flew past Duchesne at 10:48. This gave the Checkers a 2-1 lead. Blake Bellefeuille would cement the lead by scoring an empty netter giving Charlotte a 3-1 victory.
