Phil Cole Loaned To Manitoba

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has announced veteran defenseman Phil Cole agreed to a professional tryout contract (PTO) and has been loaned to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

It is the first AHL call-up of the season for the 25-year old defenseman, who has played in 54 games with the Thunder this season, amassing 116 penalty minutes and six assists. The 6-foot-4, 197-pounder has appeared in 332 career professional games, scoring 53 points (11g-42a) and tallying 688 penalty minutes with Stockton, Victoria, Augusta, Cincinnati and Columbus of the ECHL and Manitoba, Philadelphia and Albany of the AHL.

A fourth round selection of the New Jersey Devils (125th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Cole previously appeared in one game with Manitoba last season and helped guide Victoria to its first Kelly Cup Playoff berth in team history last year, tallying 16 points (3g-13a) and 111 penalty minutes in 53 ECHL with Victoria and Augusta.

The Thunder heads into a six-day period of rest before resuming play on Friday, March 14 against the Fresno Falcons, beginning at 7:30 p.m. from Stockton Arena. The Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for two consecutive seasons and drew 244,085 fans to Stockton Arena in 2006-07.
