COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Columbia Inferno (27-24-4-6, 64 points) fell to the rival South Carolina Stingrays (37-21-2-1, 77 points) 6-3 on Friday night.

The Stingrays took a 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the first period when Chris Chaput scored his 22nd of the season, beating Jeff Jakaitis on a tipped shot from Trent Campbell. The Inferno tied the game midway through the first when Jeff Miles tipped in a Jeremy Hall shot for his 24th goal of the year to beat Davis Parley.

The Rays took a 2-1 lead just 50 seconds into the second period when John Scherer deflected a Rory Rawlyk shot while camped out in the crease. South Carolina expanded their lead to 4-1 when Trent Campbell and Todd Griffith scored 75 seconds apart to each notch their 14th goals of the year. Jeremy Hall brought the Inferno to a 4-2 deficit when his sharp-angle shot from the far post bounced off a defender's skate and into the net past Parley with about 2:30 left in the second.

The Stingrays further stretched their lead when Cail MacLean found the net just 12 seconds into the third when he collected a Travis Morin rebound and beat a diving Jakaitis. Chaput added his second of the night at the 7:17 mark when he wrangled a MacLean rebound and sent it past Jakaitis to put South Carolina up 6-2. Mac Faulkner scored his second goal in as many nights when he redirected a Liam Huculak one-timer in the low slot and beat Parley's blocker side with less than two minutes left in the third, bringing the game to a 6-3 score.

Jakaitis finished with 31 saves on 37 shots while Parley denied 29 of 32.
