Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Microsoft and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police hockey teams take to the ice on Saturday, November 6th, for the fourth annual Hemby Cup hockey game. A unique fund-raising event benefiting Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital, the "Cops vs. Geeks" contest will be played at Cricket Arena, beginning at 1 p.m. Joining the Cops this year are Checkers President Jeff Longo in the net and Checkers Ticket Sales Representative Todd Ohlmeyer at center.

The first Hemby Cup was held in 2001 and raised $17,500 for Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital, which is dedicated to providing patients and families a compassionate, family-centered health care environment. In 2002, the total raised reached $50,000, and in 2003, $60,000. The Microsoft team won the 2001 and 2002 matches, but last year's match ended in a tie.

This year's game will begin with the dropping of the puck by 16-year-old DaVae Williams, a sophomore at East Mecklenburg High School and a patient at Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic, and 7-year-old Haley Cook of Huntersville, a patient of Hemby Children's Hospital.

Tickets cost $15 and include admittance to the Charlotte Checkers game against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the event's web site, www.hembycup.com, or in the Cricket Arena lobby between 12:00-1:00 p.m. The entire cost of the tickets will go to Hemby Children's Hospital. All proceeds are matched dollar for dollar by Microsoft.
