James Wins League Honor
November 4, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The ECHL office announced today that Bakersfield Condors LW Connor James was named the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month. James recorded four points (1g-3a) in three games during Opening Weekend to lead all rookie scorers. In addition, James was the runner up for the CCM Tacks ECHL Player of the Month.
James, 22, was assigned to the Condors during training camp after signing with the Los Angeles Kings this off-season. He graduated from the University of Denver in Spring of 2004 after claiming the NCAA Championship with the Pioneers. The Kings selected the Calgary native in the ninth round (279th overall) in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
In addition to his October contributions, James led the way to the Condors 4-0-0 start by tallying twice and adding an assist on Tuesday in a 5-2 victory at home against the Alaska Aces. He is tied for the team lead with three goals and leads the team with seven points and a +5 rating. Both his point total and plus/minus lead the league among first year players. James has recorded at least one point in all four games this season and was named the game's first star on Tuesday night.
Condors Send Zion to Idaho
Defenseman Jonathan Zion, whose rights were recently acquired by the Condors from the Greenville Grrrowl in exchange for RW Jon Mirasty, was traded by Bakersfield to the Idaho Steelheads in exchange for cash and future considerations. Zion, 23, appeared in two games scoring no points with the Utah Grizzlies in the American Hockey League.
"The Utah Grizzlies were adamant to have all their players in one spot," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We didn't want to stop the progress of a young player over this so we will get our future considerations and that's good enough for us. As for Connor, we're very happy and impressed with his attitude and work ethic. It's only fitting that he gets this honor; he deserves it."
The first-place Condors will be in action on Saturday night when the San Diego Gulls come to town. That night, sponsored by KKEY-TV 11, KERN 1410 and SBC Smart Yellow Pages, three historic Condors numbers will be hung in the Garden forever. Paul Willett's #16, Steve Dowhy's #74 and Glen Mears' #26 will be retired to honor their memorable careers in Bakersfield. Everyone in attendance will receive a special poster to help commemorate the night as well.
"The Condors Coach's Show" will take place tonight from it's regular locale, the Holiday Inn Select on the corner of Truxtun and Q St. The show airs live on KGEO AM 1230 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. and is hosted by the "Voice of the Condors" Kevin Bartl. In addition to the regular visit from Head Coach Marty Raymond, Condors Captain Paul Rosebush will be the featured guest. All games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230 with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to faceoff.
