Idaho's Doyle Named Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Frank Doyle of the Idaho Steelheads is the Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for October.

In his first professional season, the 24-year-old Doyle led the ECHL in October with four wins, going 4-0-0 with a goal-against average of 1.47 and a save percentage of .939.

Under contract to Utah of the American Hockey League, the 6-1 and 175-pound Doyle began his professional career making 26 saves in a 5-1 season-opening win against Alaska on October 22. Doyle made 22 saves in a 5-2 win against Alaska on October 23 and had 22 saves in a 5-2 win at Fresno on October 29. He closed out the month making 22 saves in a 2-1 win at Fresno that moved the defending Kelly Cup Champion Steelheads into first place in the West Division.

In 2003-04 with the University of Maine, Doyle was 19-4-0 with five shutouts and a save percentage of .923. He led the nation with a .826 winning percentage while his goals-against average of 1.81 ranked fourth in the country. In his first season with the Black Bears in 2002-03, Doyle was 10-4-5 with a goals-against average of 2.14 and a save percentage of .915.

Doyle was named to the 2003-04 CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large First Team. The Men's At-Large program for the Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Doyle, who graduated from Maine with a cumulative GPA of 3.85 in business administration, was named as the top male student athlete at Maine and was also named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team in each of his two seasons.

Runners Up: Chris Madden, Long Beach (2-0-0, 0.96 GAA, .971 save pct.) and Andrew Allen, Trenton (3-0-0, 1.33 GAA, .971 save pct.).
