Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.. - Oakland A's star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI in his first rehab start of the year, helping the River Cats beat the visiting Salt Lake Bees by a score of 6-5 on Thursday evening at Raley Field.
The River Cats offense was in an immediate groove, scoring once in the first and batting around in a five-run fifth inning that saw RBI-singles from Cespedes and Josh Horton, as well as three Salt Lake errors. After singling, Cespedes advanced to second on an error from first baseman Efren Navarro, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a throwing error from catcher Chris Snyder.
Sacramento starter Sonny Gray (2-1) earned the win, striking out five and walking two while allowing eight hits and one earned run in six innings. Lefty Hideki Okajima tossed a scoreless seventh before veteran right-hander Brian Gordon gave up a grand slam to Salt Lake right fielder Matt Young to cut Sacramento's lead to one. River Cats closer Dan Otero came in to throw a perfect ninth inning, earning his fifth save, and giving the River Cats the 6-5 win.
River Cats infielders Horton and Grant Green each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Salt Lake out-hit Sacramento 11-9, but the three Bees errors were the difference. Sacramento played an errorless game for the ninth time this season.
Salt Lake starter Orangel Arenas (1-3) suffered the loss, giving up six earned runs on six hits and four walks in 1.2 innings.
Cespedes and the River Cats return to Raley Field at 7:05 p.m. on Fireworks Friday as Sacramento lefty Andrew Werner (1-3, 11.32 ERA) takes on Bees right-hander Billy Buckner (3-0, 2.28 ERA).
