ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Matt Angle's two-run double gave the Albuquerque Isotopes the lead in the seventh, then Brian Barden's three-run double in the eighth inning provided the cushion in a 10-5 victory Thursday night over the Round Rock Express.

Scott Van Slyke hit his league-leading eighth home run in the third to give the Topes a 3-2 lead. Van Slyke was so sick he didn't take batting practice, but still went 3-for-5 with three runs scored. He increased his RBI total to 25, and has scored 23 runs in 20 games.

The Topes stole six bases in the game, two away from the team record of eight for a single game. Chili Buss and Matt Angle executed a double steal in the second inning, and Buss scored when the throw from catcher Eli Whiteside went off the glove of third baseman Yangervis Solarte.

Dee Gordon stole second and third base in the third inning, in front of Van Slyke's home run. Gordon has 11 steals in 12 attempts.

Alex Castellanos stole second and Angle also stole a base in the sixth inning. Castellanos is third in the PCL with eight steals. The Topes have stolen 31 bases in 35 attempts this year.

Castellanos hit an opposite field home run, his fourth, in the ninth inning.

Blake Johnson (2-1) allowed four runs in six innings to get the victory. Geison Aguasviva allowed one run in two innings of relief. Chris Withrow struck out two in a scoreless ninth, including a whiff of Solarte that registered 100 mph on the stadium radar gun.

Game two of the series is Friday night at Dell Diamond. Javy Guerra will start for the Topes. Josh Lindblom, the former Dodger and Isotope, will start for Round Rock. First pitch is 6:05 pm Mountain Time.
