TACOMA, Wash. - Andrew Carraway delivered seven shutout innings and Rich Poythress collected four hits as the Tacoma Rainiers stretched their winning streak to three games with a 10-1 win over the Las Vegas 51s at Cashman Field on Friday.
The right-hander Carraway carried a no-hitter through 6.1 innings before surrendering a single with one out in the bottom of the sixth. He ended the night holding the 51s to two hits with one walk and five strikeouts on the way to picking up his team-leading third consecutive win.
At the plate, first baseman Rich Poythress led the Rainiers after going 4-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI. Poythress gave the Rainiers a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring single in the first, doubled in two more runs in the sixth, then hit another two-run double in the seventh.
Third baseman Alex Liddi collected three hits, including a pair of RBI-singles. Liddi has now hit safely in 10 out of his last 12 games and has produced 17 RBI over that stretch. Stefen Romero posted the Rainiers other three-hit game after going 3-for-5 on Friday. Romero has notched a hit in each of his first six games with Tacoma.
Eric Thames recorded a pair of hits and is now riding his second 10-game hitting streak this season. He leads the Pacific Coast League after reaching base safely in each of his first 22 games to begin the season. Thames started the year with a 10-game hitting streak, April 4-13.
Michael Saunders went 0-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the first game of his MLB rehab assignment with the Rainiers.
The Rainiers (12-10) look to secure a series win in the third game of the club's four-game set at Las Vegas. Right-hander Jeremy Bonderman (0-2, 5.06) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against right-hander Collin McHugh (2-0, 1.93) for the 51s. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
