
Cespedes Homers; River Cats Blow out Bees, 10-1

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.. - In his second rehab start with Sacramento, Oakland A's outfielder Yoenis Cespedes went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBIs, a home run, a walk and a strikeout, helping the River Cats surge past the Salt Lake Bees by a score of 10-1 on Friday night at Raley Field.
Cespedes walked and scored in the bottom of the first, then singled and scored in the bottom of the second before coming to the plate again in the fourth. After Andy Parrino and Grant Green drew walks, Cespedes drove a 2-0 pitch into the clubhouse wall in deep left field for a three-run home run. After striking out in the fifth, Cespedes made his scheduled exit after four plate appearances. Through two games with Sacramento this year, he is 3-for-7 (.429) with four runs, four RBIs, one walk, three strikeouts and one home run.
River Cats left-handed starter Andrew Werner (2-3) had his best start of the season, holding Salt Lake to just one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in seven innings of work for the win. Relievers James Simmons and Mike Ekstrom combined for two scoreless innings to close out Sacramento's 10-1 victory.
Green was strong, going 2-for-4 with two runs, four RBIs, one walk and one strikeout with his third home run of the season. Jemile Weeks and Scott Moore scored two runs apiece. Catcher Stephen Vogt went 1-for-4, moving his batting average to .463 on the year. As a team, the River Cats scored 10 runs on just seven hits, capitalizing on a season-high 11 walks.
Cespedes and the River Cats will look to win their third straight game at 7:05 p.m. on Sutter Health Fireworks Saturday when River Cats right-hander Travis Banwart (1-0, 3.65 ERA) takes on Bees righty A.J. Schugel (0-1, 8.64 ERA).
