
Castro Throws No-Hitter as TinCaps Sweep Dayton

Fort Wayne, IN - RHP Simon Castro fired the first no-hitter in franchise history as the Fort Wayne TinCaps finished a doubleheader and series sweep of the Dayton Dragons Tuesday at Parkview Field. The TinCaps came from behind to defeat Dayton, 7-4, in Game 1, then Castro threw his seven-inning gem in the nightcap to lead the TinCaps to a 6-0 victory.
Castro faced just one over the minimum in Game 2. The only blemish was a hit batsman in the 2nd
inning. Castro retired the final 16 batters he faced and tied a career high with nine strikeouts.
The TinCaps jumped on the Dragons in the nightcap, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st
inning. Jaff Decker's towering solo home run to right made it 2-0.
In the 2nd , Allan Dykstra and Justin Baum hit back-to-back round-trippers to double the lead to 4-0. Robert Lara's 6th -inning RBI double into the left-field corner finished the scoring at 6-0.
It was Fort Wayne's 16th shutout of the year, tying the franchise record from 1993.
Castro (8-6) was the winning pitcher in Game 2; Dayton RHP J.C. Sulbaran (3-4) took the loss.
Game 1 was the completion of a suspended game from Monday night. It resumed with Dayton ahead, 4-1, going to the bottom of the 4th inning, but he TinCaps plated six unanswered runs.
Brayden Drake pulled Fort Wayne to within a run with a two-run blast over the left-field wall.
In the 6th , Dykstra drilled a double to the gap in right-center to score Decker and tie the game. Adam Zornes followed with a two-run missile to left-center, putting the TinCaps in front, 6-4.
Yefri Carvajal hit his first TinCaps home run of the year to lead off the 8th and make it 7-4.
RHP Eduardo Perez (5-2) picked up the win in the completion of the suspended game, delivering three shutout innings with only one hit allowed. Dayton RHP Mark James (1-7) was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs in two innings.
The TinCaps ran their record to 83-39 for the season, 38-14 in the second half. Dayton is now 51- 70 on the year, 23-28 for the half. Fort Wayne swept the four-game series and went 18-1 against Dayton this year.
The TinCaps have Wednesday off, then open a four-game series against the Lansing Lugnuts on Thursday at 7:05pm at Parkview Field.
