Whitecaps' Bats Boom Again

COMSTOCK PARK, MI- For the second night in a row, the West Michigan Whitecaps tallied 5 runs in an inning, and they defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks, 9-2, on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. The Whitecaps win the series three-games-to-one as Casey Crosby picks up his tenth win of the season, and Jordan Lennerton blasted his tenth homerun of the year.

Casey Crosby had his start moved back a couple of days due to a minor injury. The 'Caps' ace put a major hurt on the 'Hawks for the third time in 2009. Crosby fired five, shutout innings in the win as he gave up 3 hits, 3 walks, and got 3 strikeouts.

West Michigan got after South Bend starter Randy Rodriquez in the bottom of the second. Nine Whitecaps came to bat, and 5 scored on four hits. Luis Salas and Angel Flores had RBI singles. Brent Wyatt delivered a two-run double, and Ben Guez cracked a sacrifice fly.

Jordan Lennerton crushed a two-run homer to right in the third for a 7-0 Whitecaps' lead. It was arguably the longest homerun of year to right by a Whitecap.

In the fourth, Luis Palacios led off with an infield single. Brent Wyatt followed with his second double fo the game. Ronnie Bourquin delivered a sacrifice fly, and Billy Nowlin smashed an RBI double to left for a 9-0 'Caps score.

South Bend put together two doubles and a single in the eighth for two runs. Reynaldo Navarro slashed a two-run double as the key hit.

Wednesday is a league-wide off day for the Whitecaps. Thursday begins a four-game series back in Dayton for West Michigan. Game one is Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. ET from Fifth Third Field.
