Carraway, LumberKings make short work of Kernels, 3-1

August 17, 2009 - Andrew Carraway and the Clinton LumberKings needed just over two hours to take the third game of a four game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 3-1, on Monday night at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton. Carraway, the 2009 12th round pick of Seattle, held the Kernels to a run on four hits and struck out six over 6 IP for the win and Brandon Josselyn allowed a hit over the final three innings for his second save.

Kernels starter Manaurys Correa (6-9) allowed three runs and four hits over the first two innings, but settled down to allow just a single hit over the final five innings he pitched. Correa walked two and struck out three over seven innings. Nick Pugliese pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Roberto Lopez was 2-4 with a double and drove in the Kernels only run in the sixth inning on an single, scoring Alexi Amarista, who was 1-4 and stole his 34th base of the year. Adam Younger and Tyson Auer added a single as the Kernels were held to just five hits.
