Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - Calgary Hitmen General Manager Kelly Kisio announced today at the WHL Trade Deadline a major deal with the Tri-City Americans.
The Hitmen have acquired 18-year-old centre Brooks Macek (MAY-sick), 18-year-old defenceman Spencer Humphries and a conditional third round bantam pick in 2012 in exchange for 19-year-old defenceman Matt MacKenzie.
Macek, a sixth round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2010, is coming off a break-out 73 point campaign (21g 5a) with the Americans. This season, the product of Winnipeg, Manitoba has 24 points (8g 16a) in 38 games.
Humphries, a 6'2" 213lbs. physical defenceman is in his first full season in Tri-City after attending San Jose Sharks camp as a free agent invite.
"This was a very tough trade to make as Matt is not only our co-captain, but has been a large part of this franchise for four seasons," said Kisio. "However in return we acquire some key players in our rebuilding process that not only help our team now but in the future. We would like to thank Matt for his time in Calgary and wish him well in Tri-City."
