Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - With six goals and seven points in his first four games with the Bakersfield Condors, LW Mathieu Brunelle made a strong first impression. Today, the ECHL office took notice, tabbing him the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week.
Brunelle, 21, became the second player this season to put up a four-game goal-scoring streak for the Condors, joining Brad Mehalko. The week started when he recorded 1g-1a on Tuesday in Fresno - his Bakersfield debut. He added a goal on Wednesday against San Diego, which proved to be the game winner, but sat out the final two frames of that game with a mild injury. He returned to the lineup on Friday in Victoria where he posted his second hat trick of the season and the third hat trick this year for a Condor in a 7-3 win, and his 20th goal of the season on Saturday night snapped a 1-1 tie in a 4-1 win against the Salmon Kings.
Selected in the seventh round (201st overall) and under contract to Philadelphia of the National Hockey League, Brunelle was acquired from the Dayton Bombers on Monday in exchange for LW Todd Alexander. He began the season with Trenton and scored 21 points (12g-9a) in 37 games before being traded to Dayton where he had 10 points (2g-8a) in 13 games.
In 2003-04, Brunelle scored 56 points (26g-30a) in 64 games with Trenton and also played in seven games with Philadelphia of the American Hockey League. He was named In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for January 26-February 1 after scoring 11 points (6g-5a) in three games, including an ECHL season-high and Trenton team record five goals on January 31.
On behalf of Mathieu Brunelle, a case of pucks will be donated to a Bakersfield area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. In Glas Co has donated over 10,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in 2000-01.
The Condors have three games in three days this weekend, starting with the Alaska Aces on Friday night at the Rabobank Arena. That night the ZOOperstars return to Bakersfield, featuring Snail Earnhardt, Jr., Dick Flytale, Pee Wee Geese, LeBronco James, Deion Salamanders, and Shaquille O'Seal, sponsored by Bright House Networks and 101.5 KGFM. They then travel to Fresno for a pair of games on Saturday (7:00 p.m.) and Sunday (5:00 p.m.) from the Save Mart Center. All Condors games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com and select games are now available for viewing through B2 Networks on the official Condors website.
Become a Condors season ticket holder with prorated ticket packages for the remainder of the season and earn a chance to grow $10,000 richer. If the Bakersfield Condors win their final 10 home games (final nine in the regular season and their first home playoff game), then one season ticket holder will win $10,000. Prorated season tickets are available, but fans must sign up before this Friday's game to be eligible. The March 11th match represents the first of the 10 final home games in the contest. All current and new season ticket holders will be entered in the drawing.
