CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Checkers scored three times in the second period to take control of a close game, and then held on to defeat the Pee Dee Pride 4-2 on Tuesday night at Cricket Arena. The loss was the Pride's 11th straight loss on the road.

Charlotte scored the only goal of the first period at the 4:50 mark. The Checkers won a face off in the Pride end, and applied pressure as Pee Dee could not clear the puck. Bogdan Rudenko hit Eddie Pershin skating through the slot, and his quick wrist shot beat Nick Boucher to the glove side for his 22nd tally of the season.

The Checkers took control of the game scoring three times in the middle period.

Rory Rawlyk made it 2-0 at 3:35. Dusty Jamieson carried the puck across the Pride line on the left-wing side, and then had has stick tied up. With that passing option unavailable, Jamieson kicked the puck to Rawlyk, who one-timed a shot past Boucher for his ninth tally of the year.

Ryan Lang made it 3-0 at the 13:01 mark. Boucher made the initial save on Jason Dawe's shot from the right-wing circle, but the rebound came free to Lang at the near post, and he was able to roof a shot past Boucher to extend his goal-scoring streak to five games.

Charlotte closed out the second period scoring just 2:25 later as Dawe ripped a slap shot past Boucher from just inside the Pride blue line for his 10th goal of the season.

Pee Dee got on the scoreboard just 1:02 into the final period. Darryl Green had the puck behind the Checkers' net, and centered a pass for Gregg Johnson on the far post. Johnson was able to bang the puck past Charlotte goaltender Alex Westlund for his 16th of the season, and extending his point streak to five games.

The Pride pulled within two at the 7:20 mark of the third. Steve Cygan gathered in a pass in the right-wing circle of the Checkers zone, undressed a defenseman, and fired off a quick shot that beat Westlund to the five hole for his 13th tally of the season.

Pee Dee would get no closer despite some quality scoring chances and two power-play opportunites in the last 10 minutes of the third period.

The Pride open a five-game home stand with three games this week. Thursday, they host the Columbia Inferno at 7:00, on Friday, the Pensacola Ice Pilots come to town for a 7:30 face off, and on Saturday Pee Dee hosts the Gwinnett Gladiators also at 7:30. Tickets are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
