Bruins Defeat Penguins 3-2 in Shootout

Wilkes-Barre, PA -- The Providence Bruins defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 3-2 in a shootout this evening at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Bobby Robins and Christian Hanson scored in regulation and Justin Florek and Hanson scored in the shootout for the Bruins. Niklas Svedberg made 26 saves as the Bruins improved to 41-20-0-5.

Meeting for the second and final time of the 2012-13 regular season, the Bruins and Penguins exchanged scoring opportunities and eventually goals in the first frame. The Penguins got on the board at 13:15 of the first period. Despite the Penguins' early advantage, the Bruins continued to throw shots at Brad Thiessen. They finally broke through at 18:37 when Robins' shot found the back of the net. Florek assisted on the tying goal.

The Penguins took the lead again in the second when Reese was able to sneak one by Svedberg on the man advantage at 15:01. Not to be deterred, the Bruins struck back early in the third frame. Robins fed Hanson, who found the back of the net to tie the game and for his 10th goal of the season. Despite multiple man-advantage opportunities, neither team could break the tie, forcing the game to overtime.

After a scoreless overtime period, the teams were forced to a shootout to decide the game. It took seven rounds for the first goal and eight to ultimately decide the game when Hanson scored to give the Bruins the 3-2 shootout victory.

The Bruins return to The Dunk on Friday, April 12 versus the Hershey Bears. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for Kids T-Shirt Night. The first 2,000 kids 12&under will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of Graphic Ink.
