April 6, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has assigned defenseman Steven Kampfer to the Providence Bruins (American Hockey League). He will report to Providence on Thursday, but will be in attendance at Thursday afternoon's Cuts for a Cause event in Boston (2:30 p.m., Ned Devine's, Faneuil Hall, Boston, MA)
Kampfer, a 5'11", 197-lb native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, has appeared in 38 games this season with Boston. He has 5-5=10 totals with 12 PIM since his first NHL call-up on December 8, 2010.
In 20 AHL games with Providence, the 22-year-old Kampfer has 3-13=16 totals and 10 PIM. Originally drafted in the fourth round (93rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, Kampfer was acquired by the Bruins in a March 2010 trade with the Ducks in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (Justin Shugg). Before turning pro, Kampfer played four seasons at the University of Michigan, appearing in 147 games with 7-53=60 totals and 134 PIM.
The P-Bruins wrap up their 2010-11 season this weekend with games on Friday, April 8 (vs. Portland, 7 p.m.), Saturday, April 9 (at Springfield, 7 p.m.) and Sunday, April 10 (vs. Manchester, 4 p.m.).
The 2010-2011 Boston Bruins season is presented by the Massachusetts State Lottery. Fans interested in learning more about Boston Bruins players, or ticket options, should visit the team website at www.bostonbruins.com or call 617.624.BEAR (2327).
