Admirals Fall to Griffins 2-1
April 6, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-- The Milwaukee Admirals dropped their second straight game 2-1 against the Grand Rapids Griffins Wednesday night at the Bradley Center, marking only the third time this season they have gone two consecutive games without earning a point. However, with the Texas Stars loss tonight, they have secured home-ice for the first round of the playoffs.
Grand Rapids was the only team to light the lamp in the first period. Chris Minard passed the puck from the slot to Cody Emmerton at the bottom of the right circle. Emmerton lifted the puck past Milwaukee goaltender Jeremy Smith to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Adam Keefe also recorded an assist on the tally.
At 2:02 of the second period, Andreas Thuresson knotted the game at one with his 14th goal of the season. Mike Bartlett passed the puck up the ice to Cory Conacher who blasted a shot from the right point that trickled past Griffins goalie Jordan Pearce's stick. From his knees, Thuresson got tape on the puck and backhanded it into the net. In just his second game with the team, Conacher record his first point as an Admiral with an assist on tally.
Just 34 seconds later the Griffins answered back with a goal from Tomas Tatar. Ilari Filppula fired a shot that was stopped by Smith. Tatar picked up the rebound, carried it around the back of the net, and jammed the puck past Smith's skate at the right point to give Grand Rapids a 2-1 lead.
Despite out-shooting the Griffins 14-5, the Admirals were unable to find the back of the net in the third period.
Smith made 17 saves and suffered only his seventh loss this season, snapping his four-game winning streak.
