Heat Nipped by Dogs 2-1

April 6, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, B.C. - Kyle Klubertanz dealt the Abbotsford Heat a disappointing loss Tuesday night, scoring at 16:17 of the third period to lift the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over the Heat in AHL action at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

Hamilton Bulldogs forward Nigel Dawes collected his AHL leading 41st goal of the season opening the scoring on a penalty shot to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 first period lead over the Heat. Abbotsford Heat forward Ales Kotalik came close to tying the game on a late two on one rush, with Hamilton net minder Drew MacIntyre stopping Kotalik on the play to keep the score 1-0 Bulldogs after the first period of play.

After a scoreless second period the Abbotsford Heat came out firing in the third applying plenty of pressure on offence looking to tie things up. A point shot by Captain Quintin Laing deflected in off the stick of Heat forward Ryan Stone to tie the game up at one's late in the third. However, just one minute after Abbotsford tied things up Klubertanz made a nice move inside lifting one past Heat goaltender Leland Irving to win the game for Hamilton.

The loss for Abbotsford is costly, as they failed to move up the standings in the race for the final playoff spot in the West. With just three games to play, the Heat find themselves 3 points back with three teams in front of them, Oklahoma city, Chicago and San Antonio. The Heat will need to take at least five points over their final three games and get help if they hope to qualify for the post season.

The Abbotsford Heat will now take to the road for their remaining three games of the regular season, starting off with a matchup versus the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday April 8th. Catch all the AHL action on Country 107.1 with Dave Sheldon getting out to an early start, as the Diamond Bar Equipment pre-game begins at 3:45 PM with the puck dropping at 4:00pm.
