Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
The honors continue to flow in for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
The team's record setting season is due to come to a close this weekend with our annual awards presentation on Sunday afternoon, and this season's ceremony will be a little extended.
Pens goaltender Brad Thiessen has already been named to the AHL's First All-Star Team for his performance thus far (34-7-1 record, 7 shutouts, 1.93 goals against average), and was subsequently honored with the Aldege 'Baz' Bastien Award, presented annually to the league's top netminder.
Thiessen isn't the only Penguin getting in on the act though. Head coach John Hynes was named the recipient of the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award, presented to the league's top coach as voted by coaches and members of the media in each of the league's 30 cities. Hynes has guided the Pes to a 56-20-0-1 record this year, setting a new club mark for victories in a season.
The Penguins have also laid claim to the F.G. (Teddy) Oke Trophy (East Division Regular Season Champions), the Frank S. Mathers Trophy (Eastern Conference Regular Season Champions) and the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy (Regular Season Points Champion).
Be sure to be on hand when the Penguins receive these awards from the AHL this Sunday afternoon, as the Penguins take on the Adirondack Phantoms at 3:05pm. Good seats are still available from the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, all TicketMaster locations, www.ticketmaster.com and 800-745-3000.
