Brad Williamson Named CHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman

WINDSOR, Colo.- Colorado Eagles defenseman Brad Williamson was named the Central Hockey League's Most Outstanding Defenseman for the 2006-07 season. The award is "presented annually to the Central Hockey League defenseman who has demonstrated the greatest all-round ability in the position."

Williamson, a three-time CHL All-Star was named to the All-CHL Team earlier in the week and finished just ahead of Memphis' Derek Landmesser in voting. He leads all CHL defensemen in scoring with 65 points and 56 assists, both of which are career-highs. Williamson's +28 plus/minus rating is second among defensemen and his 35 power play assists lead all players in the CHL.

"This is a well deserved award for Brad," said Eagles Head Coach Chris Stewart. "He has been in the upper echelon of defensmen since he came to Colorado."

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native has been with the Eagles since the inception. He is one of four Eagles veterans and the only veteran defenseman. Williamson's numbers have gradually increased each season since he joined the Eagles in 2003-04. In 243 games with Colorado, he has totalled 37 goals, 170 assists, 207 points and a +113 plus/minus rating while missing just seven games in the four seasons.

Williamson is the second Eagles' player to receive an award for the 2006-07 season. Riley Nelson was named the CHL's Man of the Year on Thursday. Williamson, Nelson and the rest of the Eagles play in New Mexico tonight hoping to secure their third straight Governors' Cup title with just two games remaining in the season. They head to Arizona for the final regular game Saturday night.
